Field Hockey 2020 Guidelines

Dear BGCRE Field Hockey Members,

Field Hockey is Back!

With the Phase 2 reopening in the State of CT on June 17, youth Field Hockey was included among those sports, including Baseball and Softball, allowed to return to play following State guidelines for return to sports.

Registration for BGCRE Field Hockey is now open and we plan to begin clinics and practices in late August. We expect to begin team practices as soon as teams are organized. In order to facilitate team formation please register asap.

Further details regarding specific Covid 19 related guidelines for health safety, play, and spectators will follow in separate communications but we will be complying with all state and local guidelines which may be subject to change as the fall season progresses. We are also working to coordinate with other local town return to play guidelines and waivers.

A few main points to anticipate include:

1.    Event organizers, staff, coaches, players, umpires/officials must conduct daily symptom assessments (self-evaluation). If you, your player or a family member is sick, please stay home. Individuals should not use the fields if they show any symptoms of the coronavirus such as fever, difficulty breathing, or if they have been in contact within 14 days with someone who has the illness, or have recently been in one of the regional travel advisory states and not yet completed the 14 day quarantine period. Vulnerable individuals are also advised to refrain from using the fields.

2.    Coaches and staff are required to wear a face mask or cloth face covering when unable to easily, continuously, and measurably keep 6 ft of physical distance from others, unless doing so would be contrary to his or her health or safety due to medical conditions. Athletes are encouraged to wear face coverings when not engaged in active play. While engaged in the active play of sports or strenuous activities, athletes do not need to wear a face covering. However, athletes should wear face masks at all other times.

3.    Spectators are limited to immediate family members only. Families must maintain 6ft physical distance between others. If spectators are unable to maintain 6ft distance they are required to wear masks or cloth face coverings that completely cover the nose and mouth unless doing so would be contrary to his or her health or safety due to a medical condition. Initially all bleachers will be CLOSED and spectators should bring their own chairs. No socializing on the fields between groups or in the pavilion or parking lot. Practice physical distancing when entering and exiting the fields, and please wear a mask.

4.    We anticipate using fields at the RCC and JBHS for our practices and games. Additional guidelines will be forthcoming as we work to coordinate with other town programs and our local town, school and health officials.

As always, the safety of our players, coaches and families is and will always remain most important to us.  Moving forward we will continuously monitor our progress and make any necessary changes to insure a fun and safe season.

We hope your players will join us for play this season!
